With everything that’s happening about the Corona virus, it might be very hard to make a decision of what to do, what treatment to seek, specially what to avoid. In this video,  Associate Professor Dr. Md. Motlabur Rahman, Dhaka Medical College, answers some important questions on do and don’ts during this extraordinary times.

What needs to be done to stay safe from Corona?

Corona virus is mainly transmitted through droplets generated when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or speaks. Maintaining social distance preferably by staying at home, avoiding handshakes and  following the norms for sneezing and coughing is helpful to prevent the spreading of coronavirus.

Can somebody be totally cured if get corona infected?

When someone recovers from a viral disease, usually antibodies against that virus is developed. However, few cases of second time infection from corona virus have been reported in China. This is still under study and yet to be concluded, however, we need to stay cautious.

Is there any preventive or curative medicine for COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a new disease. Till to date, no medical countermeasures for COVID-19 are available. Many are suggesting herbal medicines, however, there is no clinical evidence that those do  actually help. It is better to stay away from those which have no scientific basis.

How to ensure treatment for other diseases than the fever, cold?

Ongoing medicine for other diseases should be continued as prescribed. For new symptoms, it is recommended to consult with a doctor over a digital platform.  Many senior professors have closed their evening chamber. This is not for avoiding responsibility, rather to ensure people do not get infected from the crowding at the waiting place.

As an alternative, it is recommended to take treatment from doctors through online digital platforms.

Professor Rahman emphasizes on maintaining government directive on hygiene, staying at home, keeping oneself and his family safe and protecting the country.
